Duchess 101 Battersea Park Road Battersea South Lambeth (SW8) Greater London SW8 4DS
Description:
The Duchess is a unique Victorian pub packed with retro art, antique furniture, chandeliers and mix’n’match odd bits that are newly discovered on each visit when the eye wanders around this beautiful pub. The décor flutters between different eras, from Georgian through the 1960s with animal print covered stools jostling for position with Sixties’ styled swivel chairs. It has a big glass frontage letting in loads of light, which dances across the dark wood floor and central bar.
The beautiful upstairs dining room boasts a fabulous roof terrace with unrivaled views of Battersea Power Station and doubles as the perfect venue for private parties.
This venue is also blessed to have a beautiful beer garden with benches, plants, bespoke furniture with overhanging flowers baskets.
Being Free house, there is a well thought out selection of draught beers, cider and ale on tap, great wine list and freshly cooked Modern British pub menu from an award winning chef.
Nights include Jazz Jamboree on Mondays, The Pub quiz on Tuesdays which has been described as “ the best pub quiz in London,” Time Out (oct 07), Open Mic Acoustic Sessions every Thursday which is a great way to enjoy some of London’s best live music. Guest DJs on Friday and Saturday with enthusiastic staff mixing cocktails help you get the weekend off to a funky start.
Sundays at The Duchess combine a traditional Sunday Roast with mellow jazz from The Glen McNamara Jazz Band, playing classic Sinatra, Dean Martin and soulful swing with the best up and coming jazz musicians in London.
The clientele is mixed here, with local workers frequenting it in the week and locals in the evenings and at weekends. They’ve even had the odd celebrity guest or two! It’s light and airy in the day and more subdued and atmospheric at night, and the service is warm and gracious. Music is a big part of what The Duchess is all about and there are open mic nights every week, monthly Showcase new band nights upstairs. There are also Burlesque nights, spoken word, parties, swing jazz on Sundays and a great soundtrack continuously playing in the background
